Have you ever been in a situation where you did something wrong but the rules state otherwise? I know I have. Both the books Marigolds and Grapes of Wrath can Relate. Marigolds is about a girl coming from childhood into adulthood and in between that time she made a few mistakes that she can’t undo that she regrets. On the other hand Grapes of Wrath is about trying to get somewhere and not have enough money to get there and to get a better life.
In the olden days, people went through hard times because all of the rights and money was had to get and both Marigolds and Grapes of Wrath show this and the rough times they went thru and empathy and compassion. Have you ever what to get something for cheap here is an example of that? In Grapes of Wrath, the lady at the cash register showed empathy to the man by. Giving the man a $0.15 loaf of bread for $0.10 to the man. She also almost gave the kids can and in the next sentence, you will see. “Oh—them. Well, no—them’s two for a penny.” ( Steinbeck 52 ) in related they were $0.25 each.
At the beginning of this reading, she did not what to give the bread to the man for $0.10 but she lightens up. In the end, the man gets his bread for $0.10 and he is happy. “Won’t you—can’t you see your way to cut off ten cents’ worth?” ( Steinbeck ) He only what $0.10 worth but she gave it all to him. The man in Grapes of Wrath you can now he was trying to get the bread for cheap and got to that in the end. I have to say that he is the one who can help you get your money in the way he
Have you ever look back at something and then found compassion on somebody or something well this is the case for Lizabeth in Marigolds? “as I look back upon it, I know that that moment marked the end of innocence. Innocence involves an unseeing acceptance of things at face value, an ignorance of the area below the surface. In that humiliating moment, I looked beyond myself and into the depths of another person.
This was the beginning of compassion, and one cannot have both compassion and innocence.” ( Collier 13) this was the moment that Lizabeth had found compassion and innocence for the people around her and started to see them differently. She had come into a new world and she was still getting used to it. “sorrowful background music of our impoverished little community when I was young”(Collier ) music played a big role in her life. This is how Lizabeth finds compassion. I would like to get the kids and I would like to come to
It is compassion that can give you new New light in this case for many stories, I will show you two examples of this. In the reading Grapes of Wrath they mentioned something about the kids and candy. I see this as that even though the hardest time the kid show us human beings can still be good to each other. “immediately to the candy case and stared in—not with craving or with hope or even with desire, but just with a kind of wonder that such things could be.
They were alike in size and their faces were alike.” ( Steinbeck 51 – 52). In Marigolds she has lost compassion but found empathy for Miss Lottie “That violent, crazy act was the last act of childhood. For as I gazed at the immobile face with the sad, weary eyes, I gazed upon a kind of reality which is hidden to childhood. The witch was no longer a witch but only a broken old woman who had dared to create beauty in the midst of ugliness and sterility.” ( Collier 12-13) This shows how she changes in this reading. That is two examples of having new light.
As we can see empathy and compassion has moved with us as the years pass we have gone over to subjects that showed this very well. You yourself may have fallen into some of the situations as well but we always seem to get past that and that’s where empathy and compassion fall into place.
In the second paragraph, we showed how the bread represented the rough times that they were going through, in the third paragraph we talked about how Elizabeth look back upon and. found compassion for somebody or something, in the fourth paragraph we talked about the kids and how they were showing us how even in the hardest times human beings could still be nice to each other. If you look hard enough you can see empathy and compassion in everything but it is your job to look.
