As we know, not only one cause helped Hitler to raise power, but a combination of many. Some of them long-term; The Treaty of Versailles, Munich Putsch (1923), Hitler’s character and others short-term causes; The Enabling Law (1933), The decision by Papen and Hindenburg to appoint him as Chancellor in 1933, but others are a combination of both such the economic depression. The causes which rose to power Hitler are linked in a complex web, some causes are the consequence of other, and others interact with each other leading to another cause.
In some way, the combinations of all of them as a whole made contributed to Hitler becoming the Third Reich.The Treaty of Versailles, was the first cause to happen, it was a long-term cause. This treaty signified a loss of 10% in their land. The German army was reduced to 100,000 men and Germany had to pay reparations of �6,600 million.
. The fact that the anger didn’t burst at the moment meant that even though the Treaty of Versailles made people very angry, the major part of it kept inside of the people, waiting to be lilted up. Hitler took advantage of it blaming the government. The hyperinflation was caused by this treaty when Germany refused to pay the reparations trough a passive resistance in the Ruhr so that France couldn’t benefit from it, it made the situation worse, people needed to be paid and so Germany started to print more money – a fatal error- though it made the prices rose drastically, making money completely worthless, again, Hitler blamed the government of weak for this.
Hitler, felt deeply indignant with the signing of the treaty, he felt deeply betrayed by the political leaders which he described as a “Stabbed in the back”. From that moment Hitler felt that a strong government was needed, anger and revenge increased and that gave him strength and hope to change the government which he finally did.This caused a couple of years later, Hitler with the Nazi rose up against the government; this was called as the Munich Putsch. They failed to gain control but this wasn’t the end of the party, but the opposite.
This long-term cause made Nazi party famous all over Germany, and that was a step nearer to the Reichstag. In fact, Hitler learned that if he wanted to destroy the system, he should to do it following the rules of it.In consequence, Hitler presented himself as a candidate to be elected. During this time, Nazi’s didn’t win many seats, but some years later, the heart of the world’s economy, Wall Street, American Stock Exchange crashed, and this affected strongly German’s economy.
Six million Germans become unemployed, many people had to sleep on the streets, an extreme situation needed a extreme solution, it didn’t matter what. Hitler looked as the unique alternative for the unemployed people who now had nothing to loose. “I was unemployed for many years.I’d have made a pact with the devil to get work.
Hitler came along and got me work, so I followed him”, an unemployed from the hyperinflation describes. People’s anger of the treaty burst and so they started to understand Hitler’s ideas better. The number of supporters of the Nazi party at this time was directly proportional to the unemployed people. So unemployment by the depression was essential to Hitler becoming Chancellor.
Now the gunpowder accumulated by the Treaty of Versailles (and some other causes not mentioned) was ready to fire up. Nazi popularity rose, to an extent that it won the majority- (238 seats in the Reichstag).Now one of the short terms events were to fall into place. This finally occurred, Papen and Hindenburg approved him as the chancellor of Germany, which finally did happen.
But to Hitler that wasn’t enough, he wanted to complete his task of destroying the system, and the other short term event known as the “Enabling Act” which gave full powers to Hitler was needed. When it got approved, the country became officially a dictatorship.Despite all this it would have to be said that it took a man with extraordinary qualities to achieve all of this. Thanks to his amazingly charismatic character, he had the cold blooded strength to carry out his aims and take the responsibility of Germany.
During this period, Hitler brainwashed and made people to think as he did with his outstanding oratory skills. These qualities were very important to Hitler’s rise. He was very exigent and strong in his leadership, he had a straight forward thinking mind and that helped him because he didn’t get distracted from the job at any moment. Speeches were his strong point, were he knew exactly how to affect the deep feelings of German people and that was the key to make people listen to him, and that led in an increase number of supporters.
A natural talented person was needed to take on such an enormous task.In conclusion, I can say that the series of events were interacted one another, like a pile of wood and a match, separate could look insignificant but together could mean a total different thing.
