March 20. 1941. the Krakow ghetto is liquidated. 1942. German subjugation spills into Transylvania. the Sighet ghetto is liquidated. Two apparently unrelated events in a overplus of decease and subjugation. However. both are turning points in two of the most spectacularly hideous histories of the Holocaust ; Spielberg’s Schindler’s List. and Elie Wiesel’s Night. There are many similarities between the two histories some of which will be outlined in this paper.
In Night immorality is personified in many ways. One of the Jews in a concentration cantonment says.
“I’ve got more religions in Hitler than in anyone else. He’s the lone one who’s kept his promises. all his promises. to the Judaic people. ” This statement seems to be made from an existentialist point of position. about stating that the lone thing in life for certain is decease. This seems to be comparing Hitler to an evil but God-like figure that has power over the Jew’s decease. Hitler. at this point in the novel.
is evil personified to the Jews. The SS. or more specifically all the Swastika bearing forces. besides seem to be an mundane immorality for the Jews. They are invariably afraid of the SS and it is the SS that separate them from their households with. “Eight words spoken softly. indifferently. without emotion. Eight abruptly. simple words…Men to the left! Women to the right! ” The exact scene occurred many times during the class of the Holocaust. one such happening was in the Plaszow concentration cantonment. shown during the film Schindler’s List.
Schindler’s List is Spielberg’s award winning masterpiece- a three-hour long heroic poem of the bloodcurdling holocaust. Schindler’s List is wholly in black and white ( except for the bookend scenes. and the miss with the ruddy coat ) . which adds a sense of desperation to the film. about as if life inside the concentration cantonments was without felicity or colour. Another thing that defined the captivity of the Jews. in Schindler’s List. was the deficiency of any animate beings. but the attack Canis familiariss. There are no birds. or any other such animate beings that would animate any type of felicity or enviousness. its about as if everything but the attack Canis familiariss had died or more likely been killed. Besides the scene in which the work forces and the adult females were separated was peculiarly sad. as they weren’t reunited until Schindler saved a choice few of them from their death.
The book Night. like Schindler’s List is comparatively barren of colour. Color depicting adjectives are seldomly used. more frequently used are shade-like adjectives such as “dark” giving the book a “black and white” feel to it. Night plays a particular function in both the book and the film. The Jews foremost see the crematoriums at dark in both the book and the film. There is a clear apposition of the Jew’s darks. as seen in Schindler’ List and Night. and the Nazi’s darks. The Jew’s powwow near together and state hideous narratives. while the Nazi’s party and drink. The Jew’s panic makes the Nazi’s jubilation seem even more barbarian.
The Nationalist-Socialist party. or the Nazi’s were non a hawkish group until they were poisoned by Hitler who made them into racist savages. The immorality of the Germans was so oppressive that many of the Jews began to take on existentialist positions. believing that life is nil without decease. and that decease is the lone thing that defines life. Changeless hurting and agony dehumanized the Jews. cut downing them to animate beings. moving merely upon the inherent aptitude to last. More than 6 million of those Jews didn’t survive. but some 900 did due to Oskar Schindler.
