Short biography of Harper Lee

Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama, on April 28, 1926. She was the youngest of four children of Amasa Coleman Lee and Frances Cunningham Finch Lee. Her father, a former newspaper editor and proprietor, was the lawyer in whose office, when she was a child, she would sometimes listen to her father and his associates discuss their cases.Lee began writing To Kill a Mockingbird in 1957. The novel was published in 1960 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. It was immediately successful, winning the Pulitzer Prize and becoming a classic of modern American literature.Lee’s father died before the book was published, but her mother lived to see its success. Harper Lee died in her sleep at her home in Monroeville, Alabama, on February 19, 2016, at the age of 89.
