Poe then decided to go to Boston and Join the army. He did reasonably well in the army by attaining the rank of sergeant major. In 1829 Mrs.. Allan had died. Mr.. Allan was then friendly to Poe and he even signed his application to West Point. While at West Point he learned that his father had remarried without telling or inviting him to the celebration. At this time he was frustrated, so he wrote a letter to Allan about all of the ways he had wronged him. Poe even threatened to dropout of West Point because of him. Clime and Virginia, so he brought them to Richmond. One year later Poe married Virginia. He was soon dissatisfied with his low income from the job and moved to 1 OFF New York. With Virginia Clam’s condition worsening more rapidly Poe fell into a depression. In 1847 Virginia died, 10 days after Pope’s birthday. He collapsed from stress, but later came back to health that year. On September 27, 1849, Poe went to Philadelphia to stay with his friend named, James P. Moss. On October 3, 1849, Poe was found at Gunners, a public house, and was taken to a hospital. He spent his last few days in the hospital surrounded by strangers. Poe died on October 7, 1849, when he was forty. The cause of Pope’s death still remains a mystery.
