He was a very versatile writer who was able to write novels, poetry, textbooks, short stories, hundreds of essays and book reviews. He is also widely known as the innovator for modern-day detective stories and the science-fiction Edgar Allan Poe was born to a family of traveling actors In Boston on January mere. 9th, 1809. Edgar was the second of three children. When Poe was only three both of his parents died, and he was taken in by a wealthy tobacco merchant named John Allan and his wife Frances Valentine Allan. They lived in Richmond, Virginia while his siblings went to different families. Mr.. Allan had dreams for Poe to become a businessman and a Virginia gentleman, but Poe had his eyes set on becoming a writer in honor of his childhood hero, the British poet Lord Byron. By the age of 13 Poe had enough poetry to write a book. Though his headmaster advised John Allan room letting Poe do this.
Which I think was a horrible thing because If they had published the book he could have had many more opportunities. Two years later, Poe left Richmond and went to attend the university of Virginia. He excelled in his classes, but was falling into considerable debt. Allan had sent him to college with a third of the money that he needed, and because of this Poe started gambling In hopes of getting enough money to pay for college. By the end of his first term Poe was so much in debt that he had to use his own furniture to keep him warm. In 1827 Poe had no none, no job skills, and had been shunned by John Allan.
Poe then decided to go to Boston and Join the army. He did reasonably well in the army by attaining the rank of sergeant major. In 1829 Mrs.. Allan had died. Mr.. Allan was then friendly to Poe and he even signed his application to West Point. While at West Point he learned that his father had remarried without telling or inviting him to the celebration. At this time he was frustrated, so he wrote a letter to Allan about all of the ways he had wronged him. Poe even threatened to dropout of West Point because of him. In only eight months of his stay at West Point Poe was kicked out.

One of his cousins had robbed him, but his Aunt, Marl Clime, became his new mother and welcomed him into her home. Maria’s daughter Virginia Clime, first acted as a courier for Pope’s lady loves, but she soon caught the eye of Poe. In 1835 Poe got a Job as an editor for a newspaper back in Richmond, Virginia because he on a contest with his story, “The Manuscript Found In a Bottle. Poe missed Mrs.. Clime and Virginia, so he brought them to Richmond. One year later Poe married Virginia. He was soon dissatisfied with his low income from the job and moved to 1 OFF New York. With Virginia Clam’s condition worsening more rapidly Poe fell into a depression. In 1847 Virginia died, 10 days after Pope’s birthday. He collapsed from stress, but later came back to health that year. On September 27, 1849, Poe went to Philadelphia to stay with his friend named, James P. Moss. On October 3, 1849, Poe was found at Gunners, a public house, and was taken to a hospital. He spent his last few days in the hospital surrounded by strangers. Poe died on October 7, 1849, when he was forty. The cause of Pope’s death still remains a mystery.
