In the fresh Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, the chief character experiences many ups and downs while on his journey to inner peace. First, he decides to populate his life as a Samana. Subsequently he abandons that life in return for a life as a rich adult male. In the terminal he decides that his rich life is disappointing and he begins the simple life of a ferryman. Herman Hesse writes about what it takes to obtain interior peace through his character Siddhartha. Siddhartha decides the manner to obtain peace is by populating like a Samana.

‘ Tomorrow at dawn I will get down the life of the Samanas.’” ( Pg 10 ) Siddhartha rids his life of all the things he doesn’t need. Then he learns how to command his inner ego, but is unable to derive interior peace. He meets a immature miss named Kamala, and this makes Siddhartha happy. He learns about love from her. Then one twenty-four hours while he is out with his friend, Govinda, he runs into the Buddha besides known as Gotama. Later Siddhartha learns that none of these things are assisting him derive peace and he no longer wants to be a Samana.

Then Siddhartha begins to chance and he gets rich. He becomes addicted to chancing and begins to set his life in danger. When he gambles, he additions many of the finer things in life like a garden, rich apparels and a batch of money. The lone job is, none of these things make him happy. He tries to purchase his felicity, but it doesn’t work. “He staked high and scathingly, detesting himself, mocking himself. He won 1000s, he threw 1000s off, lost money. . . ” ( Pg 29 ) Siddhartha even considers suicide because he is really unhappy. These jobs are doing him really old and ill. Siddhartha decides this life besides doesn’t make him happy so he decides to travel on.

This clip around Siddhartha decides to go a ferryman. He gets rid of all the things that he doesn’t necessitate merely like when he was going a Samana. He learns a batch through his new friend Vasudeva. Vasudeva guides Siddhartha and tells him to listen to what the river tells him.” ‘ The River has taught me to listen; you will larn from it too.’” ( Pg 105 ) Siddhartha learns a batch from listening to the river. Then Kamala comes back to him with his new boy, but so Kamala dies because she gets bitten by a serpent. This brings down Siddhartha’s morale. When he runs into Govinda after many old ages of non seeing him, he becomes happy once more. When Govinda sees him after all of those old ages, he realizes that Siddhartha has now found inner peace.

Throughout this novel, Siddhartha experiences some good times and some bad times. He even contemplates self-destruction at one point, but by the terminal of the novel he reaches peace with himself. It does take him a long clip to derive this interior peace but in the terminal it is good deserving it.
