Our 38th Chief of Staff of the Army General (R) Raymond T. Odierno stated “One advantage we have, especially in times of decreasing budgets, derives from our ability to develop the right leader- non-commissioned officers, officers, and civilian- who can think in this very complex world.” General (R) Raymond T. Odierno goal as well as the army goal is for the Force 2025 and beyond to be smarter, leaner, flexible, and more lethal. The army human dimension started to develop in 2014 because of our new generation coming up, the complex world we our living, the world is changing and our military needs to not just be the best military in the world but as well as ahead of the new challenges.

With this new changes coming up there will be lots of changes in our military which include but not limited to leadership, basic training, technology, education, and training. We will have three approaches the near term that consist of leadership development (2014-2020), the mid-term will be more about technology (2020-2030) and the far term that will alter the way we fight by combining both the near and far term (2030-2040). This won’t just impact the Army in general but as well it will affect the individual, the company and battalion level.

In a study done in 2014 the U.S youth population from ages of 17 through 24, 75% of them were ineligible to enlist. This is just one of the many reason why it is affecting the Army in general. There is many factors that come into play when talking about why 75% of the youth population are ineligible which is why the expectation of Force 2025 will have less soldier but with the same or better strength of the army we have now. Coming to a conclusion is the near-term the main focus is leadership development. This effect the army because it is now changing the way we think at the leader level, making NCOES harder more competitive, and smarted.

As the quote goes with the Special Forces quantity or quality is what the big army mindset is going to. It isn’t about the strongest leader or the smartest one but both which one are strong and smart to promote the best of the best only. This is key to the human dimension having a new generation with different ways of learning leaders need to be strong and smart enough to keep up as well as keep learning new ways to develop the new soldiers.

With technology improving and our enemies having the ability to get access to the new stuff the army needs to make sure that the unite level (company) have the best technology to train. Yes it means better weapons, vehicles, and more but also ways to get our soldiers to become the best combat athletes. As we come to an end to the near-term the mid-term will beginning which will include better technology for the company and individual. A big problem we were having in Iraq now that was never done in the history of war fighting was drone attach with I.E.D targeting our soldiers. We had to develop new ways to make sure our soldier are safe, changing the way our company level leader train, implementing new items that will help them in the battle field.

Not only is the army going to figure out way to help in the battle field but as well in garrison life, giving squad leaders in their fingertips way to help their soldier with eating habits, making sure they are getting enough hours of sleep, and getting the best physical workout. With the implement of the near term and the mid, the company level will start to change its way of training, educating their new soldiers on better eating habits, and better physical fitness programs.

The new generation on the U.S has change which is making a big impact in the individual soldier. Technology being so easy accessible to everyone we are seeing a decline in civilian having basic communication skills or even trying to be athletes. A big push the army is doing is finding the best physical fit and mentally. One thing that individual will now have to do by October 2020 is take the new Army combat fitness test, which consist of deadlift, standing power throw, hand-release pushups, sprint/drag/carry, leg tuck and 2 mile run. The ACFT will change the individual way of working out making them stronger and faster. Fort Benning, Georgia OSUT with their infantry soldiers are now doing a pilot program that changes their 14 week training to 22 weeks. To help them improve their skills in land navigation, hand to hand combat, battles drills and basic marksmanship. Giving us a better individual soldier before even making it to the company level. Now the company doesn’t have to focus on training the individual in the basic skill but focus on improving them and adding more advance skills.

The development of new technology, the new generation coming up and the complex world we live in might make our military smaller but will make us stronger, and smarter. Adapting, surviving and improving is always been the focus of the army and with everything changing the army will need to change as well to win the future battles. Near term has already made changes to our NCOES with basic leader course soon advance leader course and senior leader course will see the changes that will make better leaders all changes to make our leader smarter to help the future leader coming up be better. Stepping into the mid-term we will start to see more changes better vehicles, better weapons, even robots, and ways to help leaders, and soldiers find way to get better sleep, start good eating habits and getting the most of your physical fitness workout. All this is important because although the future might have less soldier to enemy front line action we need the best of the best to be able to make the s decision even at the lowest level with little to no guides.
