In Sophocles’ tragedy Antigone, King Creon punishes a kind act by Antigone. His son, Haimon, plays an important role in the story and uses the rhetorical device of Pathos to persuade his father. In scene three, Haimon expresses his opinion about Creon and Antigone and effectively makes the audience dislike Creon. He describes Creon as an angry tyrant that everyone fears. Haimon also argues that Antigone should not be punished for burying her brother, but Creon disagrees and wants to kill her. Haimon’s use of Pathos makes the audience sympathize with Antigone and dislike Creon. Overall, Haimon’s persuasive skills are most effectively conveyed through the use of Pathos.

Antigone is a calamity by Sophocles in which a generous act is punished by King Creon. Haimon Creon’s boy plays an of import character in the narrative. In scene three. lines 55-94. Haimon uses his persuasive accomplishments in speaking to his male parent King Creon. He blatantly expresses about his sentiment towards him. Antigone. and what he thinks Creon should make. He does this efficaciously utilizing the rhetorical device of Pathos. Throughout the narrative. Haimon is stating many dishonourable and downgrading things about his male parent. doing the audience disfavor Creon. “Your temper terrifies them-everyone”  . This quotation mark shows that Creon is an openly angry individual. a tyrant male monarch that many are afraid of. Haimon goes on to depict how Antigone should non be punished for burying her brother. but Creon disagrees and wants to kill her. “…no adult female has of all time. so unreasonably. Died so shameful a decease for a generous act”  .

This quotation mark makes the audience feel sympathy towards Antigone. She’s being given the ultimate penalty for desiring to pay regard to her brother. person that she loved. In add-on. it helps set up a general apprehension that Creon is a ‘bad’ individual. In decision. Pathos is the rhetorical device used most efficaciously by Haimon. Pathos is the rhetorical device of emotion ; it makes the audience experience both understanding and hatred for the characters in the stuff exhibited. In the drama Antigone. Haimon describes his male parent in such a manner to do the audience disfavor him and sympathise for Antigone.
