September 17, 2018 was the biggest recent/most recent major natural disaster that had taken place. An estimated three million people were moved to a safer area in the southern parts of China. Typhoon Mangkhut was the typhoon that killed four people and left that part of the country in ruins. Wind got up to 107 miles per hour and left many without power.

The typhoon started in Hong Kong, China and made its way to the Philippines. Guangdong is where the typhoon made its landfall and this is the area where most of China’s population is. Guangxi is where the storm hit next and kept moving in that same general direction.

Although not everything is back the way it was, Rodrigo Duterte made a statement saying that “normalcy” will be restored “as soon as possible”. China did not make any statement talking about how they will deal with the event. I have to assume from the magnitude of the disaster that both countries have not yet finished cleaning up everything yet.

China should have a better response time to the crisis and since these types of events are common it seems that they should have a decent understanding of when they are going to hit. They basically should prepare better than they currently do.

The most recurring areas of demolition due to natural disasters seems to be western China and in particularly Beijing. These areas are smacked most with Typhoons and series of devastating earthquakes that demolish farm lands, homes and waterways.

How has the country recovered? The country has recovered rather well but due to its location on the globe they are a large and continuous target from a global standpoint. the by modifying the structures and placements of their housing

Is it ready to cope with another natural disaster? I don’t feel that China really has an option at this point. They have evacuation procedures that they are required to follow need be but at this point they are trying to develop technology to find ways of bettering their buildings and houses come a disaster.
