The Chrysalids by John Wyndham

What this means is that the community of Want tries their est. to strictly apply the word of god. As a result anyone that has something special with them such as an extra limb, the community punishes them for it and sends them away to the fringes where the rest of the ‘deviations’ go. An example Of this is when Sophie escapes to live a free life in the fringes because she has an extra limb, if she didn’t escape she would have been punished or killed by the community. This main theme in the Chrysalis relates to the Holocaust.

The reason why I believe this is because I learned that Hitler and all of the NAZIs thought the Jews were a weak race of people ND that they needed to be eliminated from the world, just like Want thought the deviations were a disgrace to mankind and had to be eliminated. Hitler then sent all the Jews to concentration camps where they were worked until death. This relates to the fringes. Many Jews tried to escape to safer countries to avoid the punishment of the Nazis.

This is how I related the theme in the Chrysalis to something I have learned that happened in our history. The Rwanda genocide, which took place from the asses to the early asses is another event which believe relates to the main theme of the Chrysalis. The Rwanda genocide was a civil war that was based upon the Tutsis minority and the Hut majority. The Hut majority believed that they were the superior group and decided to attempt to kill every Tutsis there was in Rwanda.

This caused major destruction and many fatalities. I believe this relates to the Chrysalis because there were two groups of people, the deviations and people that are in the image of god. The people of Want all believe the deviations are all mutants and are not in the image of god. This causes them to become very strict and paranoid of deviation. They believe hat they should all die to keep the world a better place. Another genocide that think relates to the main theme in the Chrysalis.

Those are two historic events and genocides that I truly believe relates to the main theme in John Handsaws the Chrysalis. These acts of these people in the book and in events that have learned about cause discrimination and destruction of mankind and I very hope that these events do not come across very often in our future. I think it’s crazy to think that humans can judge other humans because Of unique things they have either physically or mentally.
