The Trump Administration And Immigration Issues

Table of Content

If you watch television, listen to the radio, or are on social media, I’m sure you have heard the Trump Administration getting bashed time and time again. It appears the media loves gossip and controversy when it comes to Trump’s presidency but turns a blind eye to his success’s. This, though, is no surprise due to media bias’s being strongly liberal and Trump being a republican. The Trump Administration has conquered a growing number of landmark achievements and made undeniable progress, catering, more specifically, to republican views. (POV)

Immigration was one to the first issues acted upon by the Trump administration. Shortly after Trump’s inauguration the US boarder started denying entrance from a decent amount of majority-Muslim countries. Likewise, there have been a few more countries added to the banned list while Sudan got removed from said list. There has been a strong focus on immigration enforcement that has led to a 30% increase immigrant arrests. (BBC World News) Trump has also announced an end to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a program that granted residency to nearly 700,000 undocumented immigrants. Although this order didn’t pass due to suspension by the court, it is open for negotiation in Congress.

In terms of international affairs, trump himself has taken an untraditional approach but one that is seeming to work in the favor of the United States. After a long conference with Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, each signed an agreement that entails both countries to execute steps that work toward peace and “compete denuclearization” of the Korean Peninsula. This is exceptional progress for two countries who were, just months before, threatening to launch nuclear war on each other. As well as Trump, secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, has accomplished a lot, with the support of many Democratic senators, while discussing with North Korea to “leverage a historic summit to discuss peace for that region of the world”(TheHill.com). North Korea is not the only foreign policy issue the Trump Administration has conquered. President Trump has given military generals the freedom to conduct ongoing military engagements leading to the Islamic State and its influence to be largely defeated. (BBC World News)

Some may argue the defeat of the majority of the Islamic State and Trumps Presidency have no correlation. But, what can’t be argued is that, as promised, Trump has given the Republicans the substantial corporate tax cut they have been waiting for, for years and it has had positive economic impact with the numbers to prove it. Promoting his tax cuts for all Americans, President Trump wrote in USA Today “I signed one of the largest tax cuts in history and the most sweeping tax reform in a generation.”. Much of the media is critical of this tax cut because it is presumed to raise the national debt, but the Trump administration announced an 2019 budget that saved American taxpayers $3 trillion dollars over the next ten years. Many major corporations have announced that they are using they money they saved from the tax cuts to give back to their employees and customers. This tax cut has contributed to the 17-year low unemployment rate that currently sits at 3.7%. This is a .9% drop since the president took office. (ncsl.org) Although the unemployment rate has been dropping at a relatively consistent rate since 2009, the rate at which it is dropping since Trump took office is notable and suspected to be because of the president’s worker and business -friendly government policies. Another notable aspect indication economic growth due to Trump’s recent tax cut is that, according to BBC World News, the US Consumer Confidence Index hit a 17-year high while the small-business confidence index rests at its highest level since 1973.

The Trump administration had a numerous amount of successes in the months of March an April, many of which were ignored by the media. The executive branch executed an order on welfare reform that encouraged more Americans to enter the work force, contributing to the lowered unemployment rate. The executive branch also took action against immigration issues reporting an end to the “Catch and Releasing” of illegal immigrants and ordered the National Guard to intensify boarder security. During the month of march the president issued steps to stop China from stealing American intellectual property. (TheHill.com)

Also, in the month of March, the Trump administration responded to seriousness of recent school shootings, announcing a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security and States to better prepare at-risk schools for disasters. The Trump administration also plans to assist States in training carefully selected school staff to take action if there were an intruder. Along with this, the Department of Justice is working on assistance programs that will enable schools to partner with local and State law enforcement to provide firearm training for staff and has implemented a STOP School Violence Act that provides schools a grant to help them better prevent violent acts. Furthermore, the president has introduced an ‘Extreme Risk Protection Order’ (ERPO) that, with a courts approval, enables law enforcement to take firearms from individuals whom they feel are a threat to themselves or others, and restrict that individual from purchasing new firearms. (whitehouse.gov) Outside of schools, the administration is taking steps to stop violence with things such as proposing an expansion of available heath care programs that help identify individuals who may be a violent threat and investigations on the causes of violent acts.

Donald Trump is an American president like no other, the first of which have been elected with no prior political or military history. It is no surprise he has taken on issues bluntly, and again, like no other American president, but many would agree the media is not giving him credit for the advancements he, and his administration, have made in America since he has taken office. Many of the same people would agree that the media is not a credible source to get information that leads you to form your opinion on our current US president. The Trump administration has put many things into effect that go unnoticed, especially by upcoming millennials who are showing a lack of interest in politics. Before making your opinion about whether the Trump administration has made a positive or negative impact on the United States, educate yourself on what they have really been up to for the last year, almost, two years.
