This assignment will focus on the organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MAD) and the role it plays in social policy. Will go over why MAD was created, what problems lead to creating MAD and how the problem was identified as a social policy. In addition, will also discuss policies created as a result of Maids influence, what problems were experienced while implementing the polices, and what effects these social policies have on human services delivery.
MAD was created in 1980 by Candace Lightener, this non-profit organization was started so it could bring awareness and educate the public on the dangers and results of driving drunk.
The problem that led Candace to start this organization was the death of her 13 year old daughter, Carr was struck an milled by a drunk driver while she was walking in the bike lane with a friend. The driver that killed Carr had been convicted of drinking and driving four times before this incident.
Candace used her tragedy top ring awareness about drink driving and the lack of consequences implemented when caught driving drunk.
This problem is considered a social problem because it potentially affects everyone and most of society is unaware of the seriousness of the problem ( Patria & Solidus 201 3) polices created as a result of Maids influence includes the National Minimum Drinking Age Act, in 1 987 the federal law was upheld in every state, this law raised the legal age to purchase and posses alcohol to those 21 years

In conclusion, MAD is an organization brought together by Candace and others who wanted to make a stand against tragedies associated with alcohol and managed to make a huge differences and brought forth some great policies. Overall, Maids mission is to: stop drunk driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking.
